Soft Layered Backgrounds

  • 13 Lessons

This online course focuses on the techniques I use to build up my loose layered mixed fabric backgrounds. I will be illustrating this technique through working on the Redwing embroidery. Here, you have the opportunity to explore texture with fabrics, fringing or ripping the edges of our fabrics and layering them up, incorporating semi transparent fabrics that subtly change the colours of the fabrics underneath them.

What others thought!

Here is what past students have to say...

- Mandy

"A huge thank you for such an interesting and informative course. Each activity is built on the one before, it was great for me and I’ve found that my skills with free motion embroidery have really developed.

- Debbie

"I am now on my third Jo Hill textile course, and they have all been wonderful. I was new to free-motion embroidery, and with the Flowers and Grasses course, I was surprised by how my confidence and skills grew. Jo's videos are wonderful; she demonstrates each step and explains everything fully. I have since completed the fantastic Creative Backgrounds course and am now extending my skills and learning new techniques on the Landscape course. I would recommend Jo to anyone who wants to learn how to make their own interesting and individual textile art."

- Susan

"I’ve loved every minute. It’s very user friendly and as a novice to machine embroidery I find it so enjoyable and addictive! It's great practising all the techniques you’ve shown us and something to look forward to during these challenging times."
