Make a small landscape or an attractive brooch to wear. Learn my techniques on how to create a small detailed landscape using fabric, stitch and free motion embroidery along with other stitch techniques like whip stitch. I also show you textile tips on how to edge your work with zigzag cords.

Whats on the course

This is an intermediate course so some experience of free motion embroidery is essential, if you have not done any I would recommend my flowers and grasses course. This course was a bonus on the landscape course but now stands alone
The course is made up of videos and written instructions, one download of brooch templates and lots of inspirational pictures.
The basic technique is the same for the brooches or the mini landscape pictures.
You will need:-
As well as a sewing machine set up for free motion, scraps of fabrics, wool fabric to use as a backing for your work, yarns of different thickness to use for the edging, threads to stitch with, brooch backs and frames of your choice to present your work in.

Landscape in fabric and Stitch

The course includes lots of images of brooches and landscapes that I have made for inspiration.

Materials Required

  • Wool backing fabric.
  • Thin patterned or plain applique fabrics, I use ones with frayed edges to look like grasses.
  • Yarns, a mixture of thick and thin and different colours.
  • Sewing threads in an assortment of thicknesses and colours.
  • 505 re-positional spray to secure the layers together.
  • Free motion foot and option of a standard presser foot for any straight lines.
  • A brooch back, 25mm long but it doesn't really matter, if they are shorter, the brooch may not hang straight.
  • Hand sewing needle and thread.
  • Scissors.
